Stamer Family
West Maui, Hawaiʻi
The Stamer family came together on Maui for more than just a family portrait. There were different generations, different relationships, and a new little one already becoming part of the story.
My goal was to keep the session relaxed and give everyone enough direction to feel comfortable without making the photographs feel overly posed.
We started with the images that mattered most: the full family together, smaller combinations, individual portraits, and a few photographs with more structure. From there, I let the session loosen up.
Walking, talking, laughing, changing positions, watching how people naturally grouped themselves. Those transitions are often where the strongest photographs happen because people stop thinking about the camera.
Family photography, for me, is not only about making sure everyone is in the frame. It is about showing how people belong to one another.
The photographs I value most from this session are the ones that feel less like a formal appointment and more like a memory of being together on Maui.
